Planning
Since
1996, Mo-Kan has partnered with the Missouri Department of Transportation
(MoDOT) to perform both short- and long-term transportation planning in
Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton and DeKalb counties. These planning activities,
as set forth by MoDOT and administered by a Transportation
Advisory Committee (TAC), help to ensure that all residents of northwest
Missouri have access to a safe, efficient transportation system. The TAC
meets quarterly to provide direction with regards to local planning initiatives
and to provide a forum for communication between elected officials, state
transportation staff, and the general public with regards to transportation
planning activities. Mo-Kan can provide a wide variety of transportation
planning tools, such as transportation mapping and traffic counters. If
your member community has any transportation needs or questions about
a local transportation project, please contact Tom Bliss.

Regional
Transportation Plan
The Mo-Kan Regional Transportation Plan is a multi-year, multi-phase planning
process designed to engage the public in transportation decisions in Andrew,
Buchanan, Clinton, and DeKalb counties in Missouri. FY2006 was the first year of plan
development, and included public meetings, data gathering, and the creation
of background sections for the final plan. Phase II and III of the plan includes additional information on city systems as well as pedestrian/bike trails and other modes of transportation.
Public Transit - Human Services Transportation Plan
Mo-Kan Regional Council contracted with MoDOT's Transit Division in 2007 to research and prepare a coordinated plan linking transit providers and human service agencies within the four-county region. A core committee was created to assist with the planning effort, and public meetings were held to gather public input on the quality and quantity of public transit services. The plan was completed in March of 2008 and Mo-Kan staff members are now working with the core committee to implement strategies and activities to increase transit service within Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton and DeKalb counties.
